"The Hotel of my Dream", a new movie starring NON, will be released nationwide in December 2024!
The film is directed by master filmmaker Yukihiko Tsutsumi, who has directed several high-profile films including the dramas “Keizoku”, “Ikebukuro West Gate Park”, “TRICK” series, ‘SPEC’ series, and the “20th Century Boys” film trilogy.
Based on the book “Shuten no ano ko” by Asako Yuzuki, who debuted in 2008 with the book “Shuten no ano ko,” including the short story “Forget Me, Not Blue,” which won the All Yomimono Newcomer Award, and in 2015 won the Shugoro Yamamoto Award for “The Nile Perch Women's Club,” and the Naoki Award for high school students with " The Hotel of my Dream".
Yuzuki has released a string of high-profile works, and her “most dangerous work,” “The Hotel of my Dream”, has finally been made into a movie!
The film depicts the counterattack of “the most unfortunate new writer in the history of literature.” It is full of realistic and fast-paced action that goes behind the scenes of the literary world, and the charms of its unprecedented protagonist who is a mixture of strength and delicacy.
■Synopsis
Kayoko, an unfortunate new author who won the Rookie of the Year Award but was criticized by the famous author Munenori Higashijujo, did not make a spectacular debut and did not have a place to publish her novel.
Should she make good on this grudge? With this determination, Kayoko stays at the “Yamanoue Hotel,” the hotel she has always dreamed of staying at, but the person staying on the floor above her room is... To her surprise, Higashijujo! With the help of her senior at university and editor Endo, Kayoko interferes with Higashijujo's writing and successfully gets her manuscript for a literary magazine dropped on the deadline. However, this was the beginning of Kayoko's further misfortune and trials. ...... The fateful confrontation between Kayoko and Higashijujo goes in a direction no one could have predicted!
Will Kayoko be able to return to the literary world and continue her path as a writer?
■Location
Furthermore, this is the last film shot at the “Yamanoue Hotel,” a hotel that Kayoko admired and that regrettably closed its doors completely in February 2024.
"The Hotel of my Dream" is scheduled to be released nationwide in December 2024!
Please look forward to it!
■NON's comment
It was a very rewarding work. Kayoko's ambition is unprecedented, and I found it refreshing to see her incorporate friends and foes alike into her ranks to achieve her own ends.
I believe that this wild, forceful, and exhilarating story will be a light that pulls up the energy and courage of many people.
I really enjoyed filming! A role like Kayoko has a strength that I have never played before, and I felt sympathy for her when she forced her way through.
I felt a sense of fulfillment that everyone on set was having fun making this film, and I was happy to see that filming on location is truly the best! I was very happy to see that.
I think Director Tsutsumi is a charismatic director. I have always wanted to be a part of Tsutsumi's works, so I felt as if one of my dreams had come true. I was very nervous because of this, and I tried to keep a cool head and a poker face to get through the filming period. I imagined the scenes I read in the script in various ways, but I was surprised by the unexpected direction and was excited every day for every scene.
P.S. I enjoyed listening to Director Tsutsumi's puns on set.
■Director Yukihiko Tsutsumi comments
The original story is too interesting, so we worked hard with the actors and staff to find interesting points that only a movie can have, and we even tried our best to shoot on location at the real Yamanoue Hotel, and we ended up with a very interesting, cute, and slightly sad movie! This is due in large part to the power of NON, who played the lead role. No matter what she wears or how she dresses, NON gives a performance with a wonderful presence. Her eyesight almost spills over, it's a magic trick. Please see it at the theater. You will feel good.
■Original story: Comment by Asako Yuzuki
I was very happy when I heard about the film adaptation, but I wondered if there were actors in Japan who could play the role of Kayoko and not be disliked. I was also concerned about whether the Yamanoue Hotel would give us permission to shoot the film.
However, my fears turned out to be unfounded, as I was able to capture NON-san's fearless appearance and the Hotel on the Mountain. I almost cried many times, thinking of myself when I had just made my debut, and I really cried during the scene where she desperately tries to put the bookstore clerk in a good mood.
It is a glamorous, slightly bitter, and incredibly funny picaresque comedy about the literary world that is perfect for the Christmas season of 2024, when the Yamanoue Hotel is closed!
