Junko Tabei founded a women's climbing club with the motto “Overseas expeditions by women only.” In 1975, as deputy leader and climbing leader of the Japanese Women's Everest Expedition, she succeeded in the world's first female ascent of Mount Everest (Nepalese name: Sagarmatha, Chinese name: Qomolangma).

Based on the true story of this great Japanese female mountaineer, the film depicts her journey from the first female ascent of Everest to her battle with illness in her later years, and her courageous life continuing to climb mountains until just before her death despite being given a terminal prognosis. The film ‘Teppen no Mukou ni Anata ga Iru’ will be released nationwide on Friday, October 31, 2025, marking the 50th anniversary of her world-first female ascent of Everest.

Sayuri Yoshinaga portrays the protagonist Junko Tabei, with NON playing her younger years.

The newly released trailer opens with Non as the female mountaineer Junko Tabei, step by step, pushing through a whiteout so thick nothing can be seen, achieving her first ascent of the world's highest peak.
While she receives worldwide acclaim and carves her name as a unique pioneer, Junko (Sayuri Yshinaga) loses the bond with her climbing companions who endured hardships together. Years later, she stands before their graves.
