The key art and trailer for the Netflix film “Bullet Train Explosion,” which will be released exclusively worldwide on April 23, 2025 (Wednesday), have been unveiled.
Based on the 1975 Japanese film “THE BULLET TRAIN” (The Great Shinkansen Crash), “Bullet Train Explosion” is a reboot of the film with a modern perspective and the latest visual technology.
Directed by Shinji Higuchi, known for “Shin Godzilla” and “JAPAN SINKS” the film stars Kusanagi Tsuyoshi, with NON as Matsumoto, a bullet train driver.
Retro-inspired key art inspired by Showa-era movie posters is unveiled!
The key art revealed this time was created by Kyle Lambert, who is known for his artwork for the globally popular “STRANGER THINGS” and the live-action “ONE PIECE”. This is the first time that Kyle has provided art for a live-action film from Japan.
The illustrations he drew for this film feature retro-style compositions and colors inspired by Showa-era movie posters, leaving a classic yet vivid impression. Kyle says, “My memories of the action and suspense of ‘Speed’ that I saw as a child were my inspiration for drawing this film,” and the visuals are filled with his love and respect for the film.

The trailer for this film depicts the departure scene of a bullet train, which is depicted as an everyday scene, suddenly turning into a situation of extreme panic when a report comes in that a bomb has been planted on the “Hayabusa 60”. The perpetrators demand an unprecedented ransom of 100 billion yen, leading to a major incident involving the government, police, and the public. The train is forced to run nonstop with a time limit of 100 kilometers per hour or the train will explode immediately.
NON plays Matsumoto, the driver of the Hayabusa 60.
In the trailer, NON impressively shows Matsumoto as a professional who is trying his best to operate the train safely even under the threat of an explosion.
The Netflix film “Bullet Train Explosion” will be available worldwide exclusively on Netflix starting April 23, 2025.
