New stills from the movie “Parallel and Vertical,” in which NON co-stars with Shota Yasuda, have been released. The film opens nationwide on Friday, August 28.

The film *Parallel and Vertical* is a heartwarming drama depicting a brother, Daiki (Shota Yasuda), who has autism spectrum disorder, and his sister, Nozomi (NON), who has supported him since childhood. Triggered by talk of Nozomi’s upcoming marriage, the film follows the siblings as they confront their pasts and futures.
Stills depicting the moments when their respective lives begin to shift have now been released.
The newly released stills include a number of striking images that bring the story to life, such as one showing Daiki (Shota Yasuda), the brother with a disability, and his sister Nozomi (NON), who is about to get married, walking side by side with serene expressions. These shots capture the daily lives of the siblings, who have supported each other for many years, as well as their “future” as they face turning points in their lives.

Daiki leads an independent life with the support of those around him and works hard at his cleaning job.
In a scene where he takes a break on a bench with a senior coworker (Makoto Ashikawa) and Sana (Sora Kawano), a 5-year-old girl from the neighborhood, the camera captures Daiki eating his usual square rice ball as usual, while Sana sits down next to him without asking and snatches his rice ball—a moment that reflects the peaceful daily life he has built through his connections with the local community.

Meanwhile, sitting next to Nozomi—who works as a counselor—is her fiancé, Masaya (played by Kuu Ishima).
As Nozomi stands at a crossroads in her life—on the verge of marriage—we catch a glimpse of her complex emotions as she is torn between her life with her older brother, Daiki, and the future that lies ahead.

Furthermore, there’s a tense scene captured during Masaya’s meeting with his parents, where Daiki lets his emotions show following a certain incident, while Nozomi watches him with concern.
It foreshadows a major shift in the relationship between the two, who—precisely because they care so deeply for one another—have often misunderstood and clashed with each other, yet have lived their lives as siblings. These are irreplaceable moments found in the midst of everyday life. Set between what changes and what remains the same, these stills—depicting the siblings as they strive to live true to themselves—further heighten anticipation for the film, leaving viewers to wonder what future these two, standing at a turning point in their lives, will ultimately choose.
The film “Parallel and Vertical” will be released nationwide starting Friday, August 28.
Stay tuned!

<Story>
Daiki, who has autism spectrum disorder, and his younger sister Nozomi, who has supported her brother since they were children. The siblings lost their mother at a young age and, keeping their distance from their father—who tended to neglect them—have been doing their best to get by on their own.
Daiki hardly speaks and his facial expressions rarely change. Having moved out of a group home to live on his own with the goal of becoming independent, Daiki follows his own set of rules. He is so meticulous and particular that he arranges everything in parallel and perpendicular lines, carefully aligning even the tableware on his desk. His weekly dinner with Nozomi is always at 7:00 p.m. sharp. If it’s even one minute late, he becomes restless.
Nozomi, who works as a counselor, has received a marriage proposal from her boyfriend. Though she harbors a hint of anxiety, she decides to travel to Tokyo with her brother to meet her fiancé’s parents...
