\u201cStudy: Osaka Kansai International Art Festival 2025\u201d enters its latter half with artist NON's installation work taking on a new form.<\/p>\n
The work Ribbon Tied to the Back (Kokeshi Lantern), previously displayed as a teaser at the National Museum of Ethnology entrance, will expand into the underground space starting Thursday, July 31. It will be fully exhibited as the \u201cNON Ribbon Exhibition: Strange and Cute Things. -Gathering-\u201d.<\/p>\n
This exhibition brings together a \u201cflock\u201d of works, featuring ribbon art collaborations with traditional Tohoku crafts\u2014kokeshi dolls, red and white beko cows, Tanabata decorations, and more\u2014that have been motifs for NON, alongside ten newly designed \u201ckokeshi lanterns\u201d and new \u201cred beko\u201d and \u201cwhite beko\u201d pieces.<\/p>\n
Given the summer setting, the new kokeshi lanterns incorporate seasonal motifs like flowers and fruits, constructing a world where different kinds of cuteness and eeriness coexist.<\/p>\n

NON herself chose the word \u201cflock\u201d as the theme for this exhibition.<\/p>\n
The core question driving this installation is: What emotions and atmospheres emerge when we overlay the concept of \u201cflocking\u201d\u2014a behavior exhibited by humans and animals\u2014with the \u201cobjects\u201d of art?<\/p>\n
This exhibition also draws inspiration from the National Museum of Ethnology itself as a venue.<\/p>\n
NON expressed her hope that visitors \u201cwill experience a deeper worldview by exploring both this exhibition and the museum's permanent displays.\u201d<\/p>\n
Please come to the venue to see Non's ribbon art, where seemingly contradictory elements\u2014strange and cute\u2014coexist.<\/p>\n
