The drama series “How to Make Something Delicious,” planned, produced, written, and directed by Yutaka Matsushige, began streaming exclusively on Prime Video at midnight on Saturday, October 3.
To commemorate the launch, a press conference was held at TV Tokyo headquarters at 1:00 p.m. that same day, featuring lead actors Yukiya Kitamura, NON, and Yutaka Matsushige.

NON said in his remarks, “I’ll do my best to convey the ‘deliciousness’ of this work to everyone.”
When asked about what led him to join the cast, N expressed his excitement, exclaiming, “It’s the Matsushige crew!” He explained his decision, saying, “I was very interested in what Director Matsushige was creating, and the script I received was absolutely wonderful.”

Director Matsushige praised her, saying, “I’d only worked with NON once before on a commercial, but even then, I wanted to capture her wonderful personality—both the sides I hadn’t seen yet and her public persona—through the lens. I’m truly happy we were able to work together again.”
Upon hearing this, NON was deeply moved, saying, “I’m trembling with emotion right now. This is the first time I’ve ever heard you say that!”

Reflecting on Matsushige as a director, NON said, “His love for the project and his focus on creating it are incredible. It was fun to see how he took such delight in each and every character, and I was able to approach the shoot with excitement.” Director Matsushige also revealed his true feelings, saying, “I can’t tell you how much NON’s smile saved me… Even during the editing process, just seeing NON’s face every day was enough to boost my motivation!” This remark filled the venue with loud laughter.

Regarding Director Matsushige, who also appears in the film as an actor, Kitamura confessed his bewilderment: “When he’s acting, the assistant director calls out, ‘Ready, action!’ and the moment our scene is over, Director Matsushige yells, ‘Cut!’ I witnessed firsthand just how quickly he could switch roles. It left me feeling a bit left behind…” NON also empathized, saying, “It was a shock, wasn’t it? Thinking he was actually acting with you… I thought, ‘So it was all a lie.’” This drew laughter from the audience.

At the end of the press conference, NON promoted the series, saying, “Delicious food truly brings happiness, and that happiness becomes the vitality that keeps us going. This is a series where you can fully savor that deliciousness. I hope this series becomes something that adds color to everyone’s lives.” Director Matsushige addressed the global audience, stating, “I hope this drama serves as a starting point for Japanese culture to reach out from Asia to the world.”

Watching it is sure to make you hungry. Yet, strangely enough, it also fills your heart. This fall’s must-see human drama, “How to Make Something Delicious,” is now streaming exclusively on Prime Video. Be sure to check it out.

≪Synopsis≫ Eiji Mizuhashi (Yukiya Kitamura), a talented chef who was fired from a prestigious restaurant following an incident, has distanced himself from others and closed himself off emotionally. He ends up working as a chef at a nursing home.

Meanwhile, Kana Osawa (NON), a director at a recipe video production company, was overcome with deep sorrow after suddenly learning of the death of her grandfather, Shinji, and the closure of “Kitchen Osawa,” the Western-style restaurant he had run and loved for many years. Kana’s grandmother, Tomoko (Mariko Kaga), left alone, had moved from her familiar home to a nursing home but had lost her will to live, spending her days in despair, unable even to enjoy her meals. Then Tomoko encountered Mizuhashi’s cooking. Moved by how delicious his dishes were, she gradually began to smile again. Furthermore, she was surprised to find that the flavor of Mizuhashi’s pork sauté was exactly the same as that of “Kitchen Osawa’s” signature dish. She immediately contacted Kana to have her confirm the taste, and Kana, too, was moved to find that it was identical to her grandfather’s. Puzzled, Kana looked into the matter and discovered that Mizuhashi had trained at the same prestigious restaurant as her grandfather. Determined to preserve her grandfather’s legacy and the restaurant, Kana and Tomoko approached Mizuhashi—who had remained emotionally distant since the incident—with a proposal.
